In our over 20 years combined direct patient care experience serving thousands of patients and families in our communities, we know what it’s like to love our profession but feel the joy for practicing medicine dwindle over the years as the ever-changing healthcare landscape makes us feel all the more isolated, overworked, undervalued, unappreciated, and like just another cog-in-the wheel.
As women physicians, we strive to be wonderful healers, but we are exhausted.
We are burned out.
We feel like we are taking care of everyone but ourselves.
We feel like we have nothing left.
We fear we will have to quit Medicine.
We hear you. We are here to help you!
We get it because we used to feel this way too.
This event is for you, and will help you to understand the power of self care and self compassion for you. Not only in your work as a woman physician, but in all areas of your life.
Expert Self-Compassion and Yoga/Meditation Instructor
Barbara Kaplan, RYT500 and SEP has an incredible 30 years of experience teaching self-compassion, meditation and yoga in the San Francisco, Bay Area. She graduated from UC Berkeley and did graduate work in Somatic Psychology at John F Kennedy University. She is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, a certified Touch Skills Therapist, and a hospice volunteer. In 1991 she received both her Teacher Training certificate from The Yoga Room in Berkeley and was certified as a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist. She has also completed Erich Schiffmann's Advanced Teacher Training program, studied with the Iyengars in India, and has practiced Vipassana meditation at Spirit Rock, CA since 1990.
Barbara wrote the Beginners Column in Yoga Journal, published feature articles on the Chakras and “Yoga for Good Digestion,” and appeared in three Yoga Journal calendars. She currently assists ongoing Somatic Experiencing and Full Embodiment trainings in California. She studied Mindful Self-Compassion with Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer in Los Angeles.
Besides teaching yoga and meditation, Barbara regularly sees clients one-to-one to work therapeutically, especially with Somatic Experiencing and trauma renegotiation. Her safe, nurturing sessions invite clients to relax deeply, learn how to listen to the body's wisdom, and vitally reconnect with one's center.
