Harvard trained Neuroanatomist, Best-selling Author, Top 25 TED Talk Speaker of All-time
Dr. Taylor is a Harvard trained and published neuroanatomist. Her area of expertise involves understanding how our brain creates our perception of reality and how we can recover from neurological trauma. In the lab, Dr. Taylor focused on difference between the postmortem human brains of individuals classified as neurotypical, as compared with those individuals diagnosed with the severe mental illnesses including schizophrenia, schizoaffective, and bipolar disorder.
Ironically, in 1996, Dr. Taylor experienced a severe hemorrhage in the left hemisphere of her brain causing her to lose the abiltiy to walk, talk, read, write, or recall any of her life.
Based on her knowledge about the brain, through the eyes of being a trained neuroanatomist, she completely rebuilt tthe wounded part of her brain. In 2008, her memoir My Stroke of Insight, which documents her experience with stroke and eight-year recovery, spent 63 weeks on the New York Times non-fiction bestseller list. It routinely remains a top seller about stroke in the Amazon marketplace.
Dr. Taylor's second book Whole Brain Living: The Anatomy of Choice and the Four Characters That Drive Our Life, was published in 2021. The material in this book has been independently researched and now identified as an Evidence Based program. This material is being used internationally to help tens-of-thousands of people stay peaceful during trying circumstances.
In 2008, Dr. Taylor gave the first TED talk that ever went viral on the Internet, which now has close to 30 million views. Also, in 2008, Dr. Taylor was chosen as one of TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World and was the premiere guest on Oprah Winfrey's "Soul Series" webcast. Her new book Whole Brain Living blends neuroanatomy with psychology and teaches us how we can not only short-circuit our own emotional reactivity and pain from the past, but how to understand it and heal it. We are wired at the level of our brain for deep inner peace and Whole Brain Living provides a simple roadmap to help us live with a peaceful heart.
Dr. Taylor is a dynamic teacher and public speaker who continues to educate all age groups, academic levels, as well as organizations and corporations about the beauty and resiliency of our human brain. She is an expert, both personally and professionally, about the neuroplasticity of our brain, our ability to recover from physical and emotional trauma, and how we can live a peaceful life.
